Loaves and Fishes Ministries was started in 1982 by a group of ecumenical Christians committed to a concrete faith response to "feed the hungry and provide shelter to the homeless people" of our community. By providing a safe, peaceful and non-violence shelter home, it is our belief that God can work changes in the lives of people.
EMERGENCY OVERNIGHT SHELTER-Our short-term (14 days)shelter program is for homeless men, women and children. The shelter has 10 beds and is open nightly from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. Guests are served a hot meal for dinner and breakfast, provided a bed, personal need items, provided with telephone and laundry services, offered bus tokens, and have available in-house advocacy services aimed at helping them resettle into a safe, clean and affordable living environment.
TRANSITIONAL SHELTER PROGRAM FOR WOMEN AND CHILDREN(Zacchaeus House) - Our long-term sheltering program for women with children began in 1997 and provides around-the-clock supportive housing (up to 24 months) for 3 families of homeless women with children. A total of 9 people can stay at one time in the home. In this safe and nurturing communal living environment, families receive the services and programs they need to help them achieve personal and economic stability which ultimately leads to permanent housing.
TRANSITIONAL SHELTER FOR SINGLE MEN (Luke's House) - Our new long-term sheltering program for single men began in November 2000. This home is the first transitional shelter for men in the Lansing area. Similar to our other transitional programs, the men may stay up to 24 months and receive services that will help them achieve personal stability in their lives. The home is able to house 3 men.
